From April 2012, local councils in Northern Ireland are now responsible for dealing with equine welfare cases. ECNI have been notified of the following contact details:-

Animal welfare complaints in respect of domestic pets and equines (horses, donkeys etc) should be made to the Councils on the relevant number below:

For species other than equines or pets, the following information may be useful:-

Wild Animals
Animal welfare complaints in respect of wild animals and animal fighting issues should be made to the PSNI on 0845 600 8000 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Farmed Animals
Animal welfare complaints in respect of farmed animals (any animal bred or kept for the production of food, wool or skin or for other farming purposes) should be made to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development on telephone number - 0300 200 7840 during normal office hours. At weekends – contact a local Private Veterinary Practice or local police station who will, as necessary, refer the complaint to the relevant “on call” officer.
